AFRO-COSTA RICAN
Afro-Costa Rican are Costa Ricans of Afro-descent. They are 7% of the population with 400,000 Afro-descendants. The first Africans were brought in late 1500’s and slavery was abolished in 1824. They are concentrated in Puerto Limon and Guanacaste by the Caribbean coast. The African influence can be seen in the creation of the national dish gallo pinto as well as the common dish, rondon.
